Program: Dr. Judy Jennings

Dr. Jennings is a candidate for the Texas State Board of Education for District 10.  She is a wife, mother and grandmother—and an expert in education policy. She earned her Ph.D. while working at the Texas Education Agency (TEA).  Her current position as Director of Assessment at Resources for Learning, Judy has spent years working on the very issues for which the State Board of Education is responsible.

Bill White fights for the people he represents, and brings people together to get things done. That’s why as Houston’s Mayor, he’s been re-elected twice with margins of 86% and 91%.

Bill White was a candidate for Kay Bailey Hutchison’s Senate seat, until she changed her mind (again); so after many requests, he has agreed to run for Governor of Texas!

Program: Carmen Cortes-Harms
Carmen Cortes-Harms has been the Director of Immigration Legal Services at Catholic Charities of Central Texas since June 2008. Prior to her current position she was a Mexican Foreign Service Officer for fifteen years. She took an early retirement from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs in December 2007.

Mrs. Cortes-Harms served at the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin, Texas from July of 1998 to December 2007. She began her work at the Austin Mexican Consulate as the Director of Documentation for Mexican and Foreign Citizens, Powers of Attorney and Civil Registry. After one year in this position she was promoted to the Consulate’s Chief of Protection and Legal Affairs Department. The Protection and Legal Affairs Department provided Mexican nationals in South Central Texas with criminal, civil, and labor legal services as well as with human rights assistance. Prior to being posted in Austin, Texas Mrs. Cortes-Harms served at the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago, Illinois where she also worked on criminal, civil, labor and human rights cases.

Program: Dr Richard Dusansky
Dr Richard Dusansky will present a short talk on “The Economics of Health Care”. He plans a question and answer period after his talk. Please bring your concerns to the meeting for Dr. Dusansky’s comments.
Dr. Dusansky came to the University of Texas in 1989 to become chairman of the Economics Department. As the Richard Gonzalez Regents Chair, he was responsible for expanding the Economics Department. His current research deals with consumer speculation as a force in housing market “bubbles” and the roles of “moral hazard” and insurance-contract choice in determining consumer demand for medical care.
